“Creativity is freedom. It’s letting your imagination run.”   When she’s creating looks, @karolynpho draws from whatever might inspire her and the celebrity talent she’s styling. “If the talent is open to trying something new and interesting, that’s always great,” she says. “I’ll ask them, what movies do you like? What music do you listen to? That adds character into the look. For instance, if they’re really into punk music, maybe it’s adding the right pins or patches to a jacket.”   But first and foremost, before any of that happens, she makes sure her client is comfortable. Assessing their body type. Asking which silhouettes they like. Figuring out what makes them feel confident. “You have to start there, because if there’s not a sense of comfort and ease, the look just doesn’t come together,” Karolyn says.   The easy pieces she relies on: T-shirts. Hoodies. Denim. Trench coats. “I like to go to Gap, whenever I’m pulling items for a shoot — they have the best essentials,” she notes.   We followed Karolyn around New York for the day, as part of our series celebrating artists within the Gap community. Exploring creatives in their element — with a strong point of view, and a strong sense of style.   Shot by @maddyrotman   #IamGap
